Sequence of a Skincare Routine

One of the most important things in a skincare routine is the order in which you apply products on your face and how you apply them. So today’s blog will be about how to apply products in the right way. This is a day time routine.

Step 1 : Cleanse
Choose the products which suit your skin type and use products which are non-comodogenic if you have acne problems. Stay away from products containing alcohol as it dries your skin. I have acne prone skin so I use Neutrogena acne wash. It has salicylic acid which really helps with breakouts.

Step 2 : Exfoliate
You should exfoliate around 2 times a week. Again, find scrubs which suit your skin type. There are different types of exfoliaters. Physical exfoliaters are the ones which have beads or particles in them (They have a grainy texture). Chemical exfoliaters are ones which contain acids like AHA (glycolic acid) and BHA (salicylic acid). Currently, I use a home made exfoliant.

Step 3 : Toner
I swear by my toner. A toner is something which balances the pH level of your skin and keeps your pores small. It helps in removing any residue product on your face and makes the skin feel fresh. I use the Forest Essentials toner.

Step 4 : Serum*
Now this step is not necessary but I prefer using serum. Always apply serum before your toner dries out so that the product is applied evenly. A serum is a concentrated form of a moisturizer and helps for targeted treatment. You can have serums for acne treatment, dryness, blemishes, redness, etc. It should be used in a small quantity because not only is it concentrated but also expensive. For daytime, I use Biotique’s brightening serum.

Step 5 : Moisturise
This is an essential step. ALWAYS MOISTURISE YOUR SKIN. I prefer light weight moisturizers as my skin feels much more hydrated as compared to heavy duty moisturizers. I use the Neutrogena oil free moisturizer.

Step 6 : Face oils*
This is not an essential step but if you feel like using one, do go ahead. I use Bio oil and I LOVE IT. It evens out my skin tone, removes blemishes, is rich in retinol, chamomile oil, lavender oil and Vit E. It is so good and I feel everyone who loves their skin should have this product in their routine. I use just two drops of Bio Oil because honestly two drops goes a long way.

Step 7 : Sunscreen
Always step out of your house with a sunscreen on. Even if it’s a cloudy day or even winters. Sun can cause a lot of damage to the skin. I use Lotus SPF 50 or my Neutrogena moisturizer which is also a sunscreen with SPF 50.

” * ” means that it’s not an essential step.

Lastly, apply your products in upward circular motion and do not use more than the required quantity. I don’t use more than three drops of any of these products.

That’s all for today. Now remember everyone’s skin is different and things work differently for everyone. Email or DM us for any queries or suggestions!
