Self care for your skin!

We are sorry for the extremely long break we took, all of us had exams on. But we are back now with a self care post, just as we promised. The first step to self care? Face masks! Gayatri has curated below a list of DIY face masks for girls as well as boys to use which not only hydrates and nourishes but also helps with acne, scars and brightening! I mean, what else do we need in this hot weather than to just sit in a cool room with a mask on and some me-time?

Masking is honestly a mood. The kind of mood which makes you want to sit in an outdoor cafe and sip your creme latte with a croissant and view the world through your luxurious eyewear.

Using readymade or store bought masks is good. They’re stronger and targeted.

This post is for those days where you want to formulate your own masks. The kind of mood where you assemble your masking brushes, spatulas, bowls, ingredients, mortar and pestle and channel your inner alchemist or feel nothing short of a person who has their life together, if we’re getting real.

Note: Rinse with warm water before using the mask and then use cold water to close the pores after the mask. Always moisturise afterwards.

Honey and Green Tea mask.

This one’s a simple mask. Take moist green tea leaves (just open a tea bag) and mix it with honey. Leave it for 15-20 mins and rinse with warm water. Helps in preventing blackheads, redness, hydrates and brightens the skin.

Oatmeal and Cinnamon mask.

Take 1/2 cup of warm water and 1/3 cup of oatmeal. Let them settle for 2-3 mins and add cinnamon and honey. Apply a thin layer and leave for 15mins. Rinse with warm water.

Coffee grounds mask.

Use coffee powder or you can make one using coffee beans and a mortar and pestle. Mix the powder with honey or milk. Leave on for 30 mins and then rinse!

Aloe Vera and Neem face mask.

This one is not exactly a mask but is my favourite. Take Aloe Vera gel (you get pure aloe vera gel in markets or you can it extract from the plant itself). Take Neem leaves and boil them in water (you can use rosewater as a substitute or only aloe Vera Gel works as well). Mix the water with the gel and apply it on your face. Leave it on till the skin feels tight and rinse later.

*How to extract gel from the plant – Take a leaf depending upon the amount of gel needed, skin off the thorns and the upper green dermis and use a knife or spoon to remove all the gel inside (mind you, this can be a rather sticky process).

Cucumber face mask.

Take one cucumber, grate it and squeeze out the water. Separated the grated mesh and the water. Apply the grated cucumber on your face and keep on for 15 minutes. Wash it off with cold water.

Yogurt and Cinnamon face mask

Take 2-3 tbsp of yogurt and add 2 tsp of cinnamon. Apply the mixture on your face and keep on for 15 minutes. Wash it off with cold water and moisturise. Can be stored in the fridge for a week as well.

Egg face mask. (Only use this if you are comfortable with it)

Take one egg white and mix it with 1/4 cup of yogurt and 1/4 tsp of castor sugar. Mix it well and apply the paste on your face. Leave it on for 20 mins and wash it off with cold water.

Do remember that for any of these masks to work, you will have to be regular in using them. Also keeping that in mind, try using these masks twice a week and you should be good to go!

So this blog is coming as a request from many people who inquire about quick DIYs to save their skin, time and money. DM us if you know any other DIY masks and do comment if you found this helpful!
